Library services during COVID: Home

Continuity of Library Services

Library Open Hours: During the winter break, the library will be open to the public Mon-Fri, Nov. 30 to Dec. 4 and Dec. 7 to Dec 11, 9am to 4pm. We will also be open Mon-Fri, Jan. 11 thru Jan 29, 9am to 4pm. Closed weekends. Remote services available 24/7

The outer doors to the lobby will be open during our open hours. the INNER doors will be locked, there are signs on the door with phone number to call for access. There is also a doorbell.

We have limited staff so please give them a few minutes to respond. If the outer doors are open someone should be on site.

You may call 518-255-5841 or email for more info.

Faculty and staff, please note: During times library is closed to the public, a limited staff may be present. If you need access, please call or email and we will make arrangements to let you in.

For information about fall schedules for other offices located in Van Wagenen Hall (e.g. CASE, Career Development), contact those offices directly.

Common Areas: only the common areas on the first floor will be open and they will have reduced seating. Library capacity has been capped at 50 patrons. This accounts for all socially-distanced computer workstations and tables. Hand sanitizer stations and other equipment will be used to support clean and safe spaces. The top floor will be accessible only to library faculty and staff.

Printing: Printing is available in the library. All you need to do is sign up for a workstation at the circulation desk when you enter the library. If you want to print from a laptop, you will need to sign in for a table.

Workstations and Tables: patrons must request a workstation or table either in advance of entering the library or when they arrive. We suggest reserving a space in advance. Reserving a workstation or table is done through the catalog the same way as requesting a book/DVD. Patrons picking up books or ILL items may enter the library for that purpose only without reserving a space.

You will need to sign in to the library's catalog to make your request. Follow the links below.

NOTE: When you select a start date, you must also select an end date. Just use the same date for the end date.

For detailed instructions on how to request an item from the catalog, please see Requesting Items in the Library Catalog This is for requesting books but requesting a table or workstation involves the same steps.

Hygiene: Patrons using a workstation or table will be responsible for wiping down the computer keyboard and mouse or table before and after use. Wipes will be available at the front desk when you check in to the library. Masks must be worn at all times while using the library.

Our online resources and services are available. If you need to talk with a librarian or require research assistance, please see our chat service page. Returning Checked-Out Items

If you’re off campus and need a renewal, you can call the library at 518-255-5841 or email  We no longer have overdue fines, but we do charge for lost items, so contact us if you’re delayed in returning items so we don’t bill you.

Here are some options you can consider for getting items back to us:

  1. Return items on campus. There is an outdoor book drop by the entrance facing the Old Quad if you’re returning items outside our regular hours or just want to quickly drop them off. If you have breakable equipment or items that won't fit in the book drop (e.g. cameras, tripods), please call the library (518-255-5864) to arrange return.
  2. If you’re off campus but still need the materials you have checked out, you can either:
    1. Return them via mail (USPS, UPS, FedEx, etc.) when you’re finished with them; the Library’s mailing address is Van Wagenen Library, 142 Schenectady Avenue, Cobleskill NY 12043
    2. Return them to any SUNY campus library. Items cannot be checked in at other SUNYs, but they can get them back to us to check in
