Textbooks and other materials for many courses are "on reserve" at the library. This means that we have copies of these materials set aside for use by students taking those courses. Since the materials must be shared between all of the students in a given course, most reserve items can only be borrowed for a short time and need to stay in the library.
Reserve items are available at the library's front desk.
Overdue Fines
The library no longer charges overdue fines to students. Lost and damaged item fees still apply. Items which have been overdue for 30 days are automatically declared lost.
Overdue notices are sent to campus email addresses.
Damaged or Lost Material
Students are asked to pay the replacement cost of material lost or damaged. A $5 processing fee is assessed for all lost items. Unpaid library obligations will be billed to the students' college account and may be deducted from any refund due. Unpaid library obligations may also be turned over to a collection agency and/or the NYS Attorney General's Office, where additional collection costs will be included.
Holds
Holds may be placed on items that have been checked out. Once the item is returned, it will be put aside for the patron and the patron notified. Items are held for only seven days after notification.
Holds cannot be placed on circulating equipment.
Bookings
Study rooms may be booked up to a week in advance through the library catalog.
Recalls
ILL requests will be placed in lieu of recalling items unless the item cannot be procured from another library.
You can search the catalog to see if we have your course materials on reserve. Use the same instructions as you would for finding books and look to see the location of the item. If it says "Available at Van Wagenen Library Course Reserve (reserve shelf)," it's on reserve. You can also search the catalog for just Course Reserves by choosing that option instead of Physical Materials on the pull down menu. This will allow you to search by course (example: BIOL 186) or an instructor's name (example: Hickey).
Or just come to the front desk and ask us.
