AI Research Tools

This guide outlines AI tools for research including best uses for each.

Tool Spotlight: Perplexity

Perplexity can be used to learn more about a topic and discover web-based sources. You can ask questions and get chat-based responses synthesizing sources from across the web. Perplexity will include in-text citations linking to the source pages. The sources will be linked at the bottom of a page as well. The citations are not necessarily coming from scholarly sources, so students will still need to evaluate the original sources, and check the written response for hallucinations.

  • Can set a browser blugin on Chrome to have perplexity as the default search engine.
  • Free and paid versions.
  • Unlike ChatGPT Perplexity will connect with researchers and research articles
  • Do not need to create a login, but it will give you access to more tools
  • Text-based chatbot style response, with links to sources across the web
